Queen Elizabeth II's 94-year-old husband came in at 12th position in 'GQ' magazine's '50 Best Dressed Men in Britain' list, 26 places ahead of his 31-year-old grandson, who was ranked 38th.
"If we look as good as the Queen's consort does when we reach our tenth decade we will be very happy," the magazine said in reference to the Duke of Edinburgh.
The list is topped for the second year running by Oscar-winning British actor Eddie Redmayne, famous for his role as physicist Stephen Hawking in 'The Theory of Everything'.
Prince George's father, Prince William, also fails to make the cut this time.
The Duke of Edinburgh has a reputation for thriftiness, reusing and repairing decades-old favourite outfits, 'The Daily Telegraph' reported.
He has often been seen at naval events wearing the same uniform he wore to his wedding in 1947.
Patrick Grant, the Savile Row tailor - himself featured at number five on this year's GQ list - has previously described how the Duke has "always favoured a simple suit made from heavyweight British cloths: tough twills and twist worsted - never excessively fitted, and always well balanced".
The list is voted for annually by 'GQ' staff and a panel of experts including fashion designer Giorgio Armani, designer Tom Ford, model Lara Stone and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
