"Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been clamped," District Collector Shekhar Verma told PTI.
Additional forces have been called to the district headquarters, Superintendent of Police Akilesh Jha said.
He said that members of two groups have been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Trouble began after the news of Sudhanshu, the son of a BJP leader Dashrath Chandel, being attacked and injured by some people spread, causing tension.
Jha said the law and order situation was under control.
Verma and Jha convened a meeting of prominent representatives of the two communities as well as a local MLA Nagar Singh Chouhan to clear the air to usher in normalcy.
