There is also a need to increase awareness about IP rights at the grass root level besides enhancing the commercialisation of patents in the country, Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks Rajiv Aggarwal said at a function organised by FICCI.
There was a proposal for speeding up disposal of patents under 'Make in India' regime, a statement by FICCI quoted the official as saying.
The 'Make in India' campaign of the government aims at boosting manufacturing sector of the country.
Aggarwal said that IP will be the most important property in the 21st century and India's first IPR policy which is in the offing would be the first step towards nurturing and protecting the rights.
The government has set up a six-member committee to draft a national IPR policy. The panel had already submitted its draft report.
