KV Sanghathan commissioner Avinash Dikshit told PTI that a proposal for 200 new KVs is pending with the government but they are yet to receive any sanction.
The Centre had set an ambitious target of opening 500 new KVs in the current five year plan.
Official sources said budget constrain is the primary reason for not sanctioning new KVs. They admitted that it would be difficult to meet the target of opening 500 new KVs in 2012-17.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada said KVs were able to absorb the children of the central government officials, for whom KVs are primarily meant, but civilian authorities and groups were also asking for more KVs to meet the demand of local population.
