The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP today said the Sainik colony, proposed to be built in the Valley, was for the ex-army personnel belonging to the state only and not outsiders.
"It (proposed colony) is for the armymen belonging to the state. It will be like the police colony for the police personnel of the state. It is a welcome step," BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir said here.
He along with BJP state spokesman Arun Gupta and party MLC Surinder Ambardar was addressing a press conference here.
On the continued ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC), the party leaders said the country was responding to them even as it believed dialogue was the only way forward to resolve the issue.
"This has been a continuous habit of Pakistan with an aim to push in more infiltrators. We are not taking active measures but there is a timely response from our side," Ambardar said.
"Pakistan is our neighbour. They (people of Pakistan) are our brothers...Our understanding is that dialogue is the best way to handle things to the most possible extent," Gupta said.
Earlier, Gupta said the party had launched 'Mahasampark Abhiyaan' to reach out to the new members to listen to their problems and discuss the party's policies with them.
"There is seriousness in the working of the party here and we want to continue that for the next five-and-a-half years so that no one is able to say that we haven't done anything. We will come up to the expectations of the people," he said.
The BJP leaders said a package for the rehabilitation of flood victims was in the final stages and would be announced soon.
