Punjab Governor launches programme for border area youths

Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore today flagged off a nine-day para cycling expedition from Wagah border near Amritsar to New Delhi.
As many as 34 cyclists are participating in the expedition which would cover about 500 km in nine days before reaching at BSF Camp New Delhi on December 1.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would receive the expedition in Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor and Chandigarh Administrator appreciated the Border Security Force for giving the opportunity to the Divyang Youdhas (Physically challenged) to live a dignified life.
Few of the cyclists participating in the expedition are physically challenged.
The Governor said that during these nine days, the whole nation would be witnessing courage and dedication of the Divyangs and it would be a moment of pride for them to show to everyone that they were not less capable than anyone.
Launching a training programme for the youth of border areas under Civic Action Plan, the Governor announced that the Punjab government has released an amount of Rs 48 lakh to the BSF to impart skilled training to about 480 youths of the border area villages in four batches at four different locations under this plan.
The Governor asked the BSF officers to identify eligible girls of the border villages for the next training scheduled so that the girls could also get specialized training in different fields and thereafter get adjusted to different jobs.
The Governor said that the Skill Generation Mission launched by the Union government was aimed at creating more job opportunities, space and scope for the development of the talent in the Indian Youth.
He said that by 2020 about 500 million youth of country would be imparted training covering each and every village.
Those present on the occasion included Arun Kumar, Director General BSF, Anil Paliwal IG BSF, Aditya Mehta from Mehta Foundation and Gulzar Singh Ranike, Punjab minister of Animal Husbandry.
