Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the Punjab government's top priority was to impart skill education to people and it would train nearly one lakh youths every year through various schemes.
"The top priority of the state government is to impart skill training to people. A highly skilled populace will herald an era of unprecedented economic growth in the state," Badal said while addressing gatherings during "Sangat Darshan" programme in Lambi assembly segment.
Badal said size of land holdings was continuously decreasing and agriculture was no longer a profitable venture. The need of the hour is that each hand in a family is skilled, he said.
The chief minister said there were tremendous opportunities for skilled manpower in the fields of paramedics hospitality, healthcare among others and therefore, the state government was laying special thrust on imparting technical training to students through a wide network of skill centers across the state.
Expressing grave concern over unemployment, he said the only solution to tackle it was through imparting skill training to people.
The state government has set a target of training nearly one lakh youths annually under various skill development programmes in order to cater to the needs of the local industry, he said.
Apprising that Punjab has became the first ever state to ink an MoU with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in healthcare sector, he said that this MoU would open new vistas of employment for the Punjabi youth.
Meanwhile, Badal told reporters that the newly built Bathinda airport would be made operational soon.
