Former daughter-in-law of renowned billiard player Michael Ferreira was today sent to judicial custody till October 6 by a local court after her arrest in connection with the alleged Rs 425 crore fraud involving Hong Kong-based multi-level marketing firm QNet.
"Susan Chatterjee has been remanded in judicial custody and her bail application will come up for hearing tomorrow," Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said.
Chatterjee was arrested on September 12.
According to the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police, she had allegedly earned about Rs 1.7 crore through the QNet scheme. She was under EOW scanner after Ferriera's alleged role came to light during the probe.
The EOW had arrested nine 'team leaders' of QNet for allegedly duping investors by offering to sell products such as magnetic disks, herbal medicines and holiday schemes through multi-level marketing. All of them are out on bail.
The first information report in the case was filed in August last year under the Prize, Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.
Bollywood actor Boman Irani's son Danesh has also been allegedly found to be associated with the firm, following which police froze his bank account with Rs 25 lakh in it.
EOW has also issued look-out notice against QNet founder Vijay Eswaran and his three associates.
