Scores of radiologists will tomorrow hold a protest at the Jantar Mantar to press for their demand to amend a legislation that "equates" even minor clerical mistakes committed during their jobs to sex determination.
The Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) which had yesterday given a call for a nationwide indefinite strike
starting September 1 over, said, it today held a meeting with the government officials and they have assured to look into our demand.
"The government has assured us, but they will tell us by tomorrow only as to what exactly it entails. Meanwhile, we will hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar tomorrow, and take further decision on whether to continue the strike or call it off," IRIA President O P Bansal said.
The apex body of radiologists have alleged that certain provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act are "draconian" and they need to be amended.
"Even minor clerical mistakes committed during our job, they are equated to sex-determination. And, several radiologists have faced harassment and been victimised," he claimed.
"Based on the outcome of the meeting, we held with the government officials today, we will take a final decision on whether our day-long strike would become indefinite or be called off," he said.
Set up in 1930s, as Indian Radiological Association, the IRIA has currently about 14,000 members and 27 chapters across the country.
