Officials said the incident occurred at about 4:30 AM inside the Phaphamau-based camp of the 101st battalion of the RAF when constable Manoj Kumar (24) shot himself from his official self loading rifle.
They said Kumar allegedly pointed the barrel of the gun under his chin and fired two rounds which instantly killed him.
"The force has ordered for a Court of Inquiry into the incident which looks to be a case of suicide, prima facie. The exact reasons for Kumar taking the extreme step are being investigated and his colleagues at the camp are being questioned," they said.
Local police officials and senior Central Reserve Police Force officers have reached the spot soon after the incident, they said.
The blue-dungaree uniform donning RAF has been created as an exclusive unit under the CRPF and a battalion (about 1,000 personnel) is permanently based here.
