Gandhi is expected to utilise the occasion to gear up the party for the future challenges at a time when the Assembly elections in four states including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are on the cards by the year-end. Other poll-bound states are Chhattisgarh and Delhi.
Assembly elections in Jharkhand also appear to be round the corner with the President's rule in the state expiring on July 18 and Congress so far not keen to form a government. JMM has been pressing it for the past six months for an alliance to form a coalition in the tribal dominated state.
Prior to the meeting, Rahul has held one-to-one interaction with general secretaries in-charge of various states, especially the poll-bound states.
Party leaders have been insisting that Rahul has been impressing upon partymen to concentrate on building up the organisation and not to focus on other issues including alliances.
In the reshuffle of the AICC secretariat on June 16, 12 general secretaries and 44 secretaries were appointed bringing several new faces. The party brought in former Union ministers Ajay Maken and C P Joshi along with Ambika Soni and Gurudas Kamat as general secretaries and dropped Ghulam Nabi Azad and Oscar Fernandes.
Those who have been elevated as general secretaries include Mohan Prakash, Shakeel Ahmed and Luizinho Faleiro who were earlier permanent invitees to Congress Working Committee (CWC) and in-charge of various states.
