"Railway safety remains the top most priority of the ministry and development of safety measures is the immediate next priority to ensure safety of trains and passengers," he told reporters.

Muniappa, who was here to enquire about the condition of the ten hospitalized persons after they sustained serious injuries in the train-bus collision in Siwan district yesterday, said that all safety measures would be put in place at the lavel crossings throughout the country.

Stating that out of 32,000 level crossings 14,000 are unmanned, he said all crossings would be manned by 2015-16.

On the pendency of a number of railway projects in Bihar, Muniappa said that it took four to five years to complete a project. But, if the state government set priorities, the railway ministry would deliberate on its demands.
