Rain-battered Bengaluru struggles to recover

The rain-battered city today struggled to limp back to normalcy after many areas were inundated, throwing normal life out of gear.
Some lakes breached their banks leading to flash floods in several parts of the city.
Many areas were inundated with sewage mixed water.
Begur, HSR Layout, Mysuru Road nearVrishabhavathi river turned-sewage drain, Madivala and partsof Electronic City were badly affected.
The waste weir of Begur lake was damaged in the recent rain.
Before civic agencies could restore the lake bund,heavy rains in the last three days played spoilsport again, civic officials said.

"Water has receded from flood affected areas, but water has stagnated in many low-lying areas. People are still struggling to drain out water from their houses. The rain has left a trail of destruction," said Bengaluru Mayor GPadmavathi.
She said roads had been washed away in many parts of the city, leaving behind huge potholes, which would take a long time to be repaired.
Meanwhile, the mayor granted compensation of Rs five lakh to the next to the kin of Jagadisha, who was killed along with his sister and brother-in-law, when a huge tree fell on their car on September 8 due to heavy rains.
