Widespread rains lashed the national capital today offering respite from the heat, but caused traffic snarls in many areas due to water-logging.
The rain gauge at the Safdurjung observatory measured 37.6 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm today, a MeT official said.
Humidity, however, continued to be on the higher side and was recorded between 92 and 59 per cent during the day.
Water-logging, a perennial problem in the capital during Monsoon, led to traffic jams in several parts of the city including major intersections such as ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Kashmere Gate, South Extension, Aashram Chowk, Mahipalpur, Moolchand Underpass, Nehru Place and Dhaula Kuan.
The maximum temperature settled at 35.3 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal. Yesterday, the maximum had settled at 37.7 degrees.
The minimum temperature was recorded two notches higher than normal at 29.1 degrees Celsius.
"It will be a generally cloudy day tomorrow. Light rainfall or thundershowers may occur in some areas," the MeT official said. The maximum and minimum temperatures tomorrow are expected to settle around 35 and 26 degrees respectively, the official added.
