Raje bats for better use of social media to counter rumours

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today directed senior police officials in the state to counter false propaganda online by using social media.
She also stressed on creating an atmosphere where women face no problem in roaming around freely even at night.
Addressing a conference of Collectors and SPs here, she said more rigorous efforts need to be made to achieve such a crime-free situation.
"The CM asked the district collectors and Superintendents of Police to work as a team to make Rajasthan a model state in terms of peace and prosperity.
She also expressed concern on rumour-mongering through social media and directed SPs to use these platforms to counter false propaganda," a release quoting her said.
She said disruption in social and communal harmony would take a toll on development of the state, adding that if minor incidents were dealt with on time, some major happenings could be averted.
The CM asked the police officers to regularly attend meetings of the district level vigilance committees and committees related to atrocities against SCs and STs.
She further suggested GIS mapping of sensitive areas, use of CCTV and video cameras along with advanced technology.
The Chief Minister announced an award for the district having highest number of crime-free villages on the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas.
Speaking at the conference, Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said crime control situation has improved in comparison to previous years.
He said a remarkable reduction was registered in the cases of crime against women, SCs and STs, while over 3,000 villages had been declared crime-free in the state.
Members of the Council of Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chairpersons of various Commissions, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, senior administrative officials and police officers were present in the conference.
