The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has started preparation for the second phase of Smart City mission by seeking suggestions from the citizens which will shape a proposal to be submitted to the Centre by December 2015.
"Rajkot is among the 100 cities selected under the Smart City mission of the Centre in the first phase," RMC commissioner Vijay Nehra said here today, adding that in the second phase 20 cities out of these 100 would be selected.
"Top 20 cities will get additional funds of Rs 500 crore from the Centre and another Rs 500 crore from the state government," he said.
Nehra attended a workshop organised by the Urban Development Ministry in New Delhi on September 3.
"We have divided our campaign to make Rajkot a smart city in three legs. First phase is vision, second is goal and the third and final is strategy," Nehra said, adding the first phase started today with RMC inviting suggestions from public.
"The first phase would be concluded by this month-end and top three best suggestions would be given prizes of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 on October 2.
"The second phase would start from October 1 and will end by October end. The third phase will start from November 1 and will conclude by November end," he said.
"The civic body will focus on 24 points given by the Urban Development Ministry and the main focus would be on the citizen partnership, therefore our first phase of seeking suggestions is very important," he said.
