Raju for inter-disciplinary studies, research at aviation univ

Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju today stressed the need for a sense of direction for promoting innovation in teaching-learning process and undertaking inter-disciplinary studies and research at the proposed National Aviation University.
The Minister, who inaugurated a day-long workshop on the proposed National Aviation University to come up at Fursatgunj in Rae Bareilly district of Uttar Pardesh, said the objective of the varsity shall be to develop academic standards of international level, according to an official release.
It would also to undertake other measures to facilitate development of skilled aviation manpower including licensed- category of aviation personnel, he said.

The workshop was attended by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma and senior ministry officials, besides experts from the industry and academia.
The participants deliberated upon measures to sort out initial steps for the varsity. The workshop aimed to arrive at an integrated perspective on postgraduate and under-graduate education, research domains, executive education, industry linkages and skilling, faculty sourcing and the ministry-university relationship.
Addressing the participants, Sharma said deliberations at the workshop should be a guiding map for the civil aviation industry.

The university would facilitate and promote aviation studies with focus on emerging areas of studies such as aviation management, aviation regulation and policy, he said.

President Pranab Mukherjee had given his assent for setting up of the first-ever national aviation university named after Rajiv Gandhi to train pilots, cabin crew and aircraft engineers in 2013.
It provides for creation of the central university on a 26 acre plot at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Academy at Fursatganj.
The university, an autonomous body under administrative control of the Civil Aviation Ministry, would have a funding of Rs 202 crore during the 12th Plan period.
