A woman Sub-Inspector is being booked for allegedly forcing a teacher to part with her jewels and abusing her when the latter came for an inquiry into her complaint against her estranged husband.
District Superintendent of Police N M Mayilvahanan has directed registration of an FIR against SI Velammal of Thiruvadanai station for illegally taking the jewels and also for preventing a constable from delivering an inquiry report into the charges against her to the SP's office.
According to Police SI Velammal, who has already received nine memos, had forced teacher Lavanya to part with her jewels when she came to the police station for questioning.
The teacher had requested the SP to get back 25 sovereigns of jewels and Rs.70,000 worth motorbike given as dowry to her husband as they were living separately now. The SP had forwarded the complaint to the SI for further action.
The SI who had summoned the the couple for investigation forced the teacher to remove all her jewels, including the mangalya sutra, and kept it herself, besides abusing her.
On a complaint to Additional SP Velladurai, a departmental enquiry was conducted by a DSP, who submitted his report in a sealed cover through a constable.
However, the SI waylaid the constable at the SP's office entrance and took the report, promising that she would hand it over to the SP. But she did not give it to the SP.
