The Aam Aadmi Party today slammed the Centre over the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman by a cab driver and asked what steps it had undertaken for the security of women since last six months, after the new government came to power.
Attacking the Delhi Police, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia demanded that accountability needs to be fixed in this case, especially on the traffic police as the driver did not have a license issued by Delhi Traffic Authority.
Ahead of Delhi assembly polls early next year, the party also attacked the BJP and Centre and said while Rs 100 crore were being spent on security of women, Rs 450 were alloted to protect the VIPs.
He said, the party has also sought time with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh as the Delhi Police comes under his ministry and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to discuss the issue.
"What steps has the Central government taken ever since it came to power? Delhi is being ruled by Union government. Have they come up with any concrete policy related to women's security? Where are the fast tracks they had promised," Sisodia said.
He said, it was important to fix responsibility and erring officials should be held accountable.
"The latest incident raises serious questions about the inefficiency of Delhi Police, particularly the traffic police and the wrong priorities of the unresponsive Delhi administration.
"No verification was done before the accused driver was hired by the cab company, the cab was without a GPS system and the driver could tamper with other gadgets to destroy evidence - all prove unpardonable negligence of the cab company and expose the dangers to which passengers hiring such cabs are exposed.
"Why was no verification of the driver done? Unless responsibility is not fixed in the Delhi Police, things are not going to improve," Sisodia said.
