BJP today objected to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat's "misleading" claims that the Centre was discriminating against the state in providing funds while claiming that the NDA government released more funds to the hill state in comparison to the UPA dispensation.
BJP National Secretary Shyam Jaju told reporters that rather than telling about the performance of his own government, Rawat was indulging in politics on the basis of wrong data.
"The Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat is trying to mislead the people of the state by repeatedly accusing the Centre of discrimination. That the state is getting less funds from the Centre.
"The reality, however, is different. The Central government has for the first time increased the share of state in funds upto 42 per cent, which is applicable in Uttarakhand's case as well," Jaju said.
Citing Finance Commission data, Jaju said that the funds being given to Uttarakhand by the NDA regime is much more than what was being given during the UPA years.
He claimed that in 2014-2015 Rs 4,421 crore went to Uttarakhand government, which during 2015-16 has gone upto Rs 5,807 crore, an increase of 31 per cent.
The BJP leader also claimed that as per Finance Commission data, during 2010-15, Uttarakhand got Rs 15,965 crore while in the coming years it is calculated to be around Rs 40,967 crore which is an increase of 156 per cent.
"So we oppose the attempt to mislead the people of Uttarakhand on the basis of wrong figures," Jaju said.
He said that after the flash floods in the state, the rehabilitation works are still not complete because of which there is a decrease in the number of tourists footfall.
"The Uttarakhand Chief Minister should respond on the slow speed of work in this regard. But Harish Rawat ji is not speaking on the performance of his government and indulging in politics on the basis of false data, which we oppose," Jaju said.
