The 57-year-old "I Wanna Be Your Lover" singer feels the contracts are similar to "slavery" and advised upcoming artists to not get attached to one, reported Aceshowbiz.
"Record contracts are just like - I'm gonna say the word - slavery. I would tell any young artist... Don't sign," he said.
He said that typical record company contracts turn the artists into "indentured servants" who do not have any control over their music.
Defending rapper Jay-Z's much criticised streaming service Tidal, the Grammy Award-winning musician said the service according to him was one of the solutions to artists' problems with recording companies.
