The relations between India and Bangladesh are much better now than in the past, a senior official of the neighbouring country said today, adding Bangladesh has zero tolerance towards any kind of terrorism.
"The relation between India and Bangladesh is now better than any time before. We have zero tolerance to any kind of terrorism or crime or trespass," Senior Secretary, Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs, Md Mozammel Haque Khan told reporters here.
He also said that there was no presence of IS terrorists in Bangladesh and terrorism was under control in the country.
"I can say there is no presence of IS terrorists in our country and the overall terrorism situation is under control. But there are many misguided elements who might try to create subversive activities. About seven/eight months before, terrorists activities were reported in the country, but the issue has been tackled now," Khan said.
"The relation between the border guards of both the countries is very cordial and both sides are alert about any crime, including trespass or smuggling of contraband items. Both countries follow the same principle that border should remain crime free," he said.
When asked if the neighbouring country was taking any precaution in view of the state elections in the bordering West Bengal, he said, "We are alert so that our soil is not made the haven of terrorism or activities of religious fundamentalism. I think India also wants the same thing. Both the countries always share information regarding crime and take actions accordingly."
Khan said the Visa system between the two countries should be made more simplified.
The official arrived at the city from Delhi today for inspection of upcoming Machine Readable Visa (MRV) and Machine Readable Passport (MRP) system in the Assistant High Commission's office here.
The system would be introduced in the capital city soon as the handwritten visa had become obsolete.
The Agartala visa office has recently been upgraded to an office of Assistant High Commission which is likely to be further upgraded to the status of a Deputy High Commission.
Khan today left for Dhaka via Akhaura check post here.
