Report on Kanth violence sent to Centre: UP

The Uttar Pradesh government today said that it has sent a report on the recent incidence of violence in Kanth in Moradabad district to the Centre.
The issue of holding of a 'mahapanchayat' in Kanth area last week had turned into a violent protest.
The government has sent its report on Moradabad incident to the Centre, Secretary (Home) Kamal Saxena told reporters here.
On being asked whether National Security Act would be invoked against those arrested in connection with violence IG (law and order) Amrendra Singh Sengar said that identification was being done on the basis of facts and evidences mentioned in the FIR.

He said that the matter was being investigated.
Sengar said that so far five FIRs had been lodged in which 93 people had been arrested.

The Union government had sought a report from Uttar Pradesh about the violence in Kanth area of Moradabad district, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday.
"A report has been sought from the UP government on the entire incident. I will be in a position to say anything only after the report is received," Singh had said during a programme here.
Violent protests erupted on Friday after the police tried to stop some people from holding a 'mahapanchayat' in Kanth area over removal of a loudspeaker from a temple there.

A police spokesman in Lucknow said 12 officers, including District Magistrate Chandra Kant, were injured in stone pelting by the protesters.
BJP leaders, including four MPs and an MLA who was accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were detained.
Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som, Amroha MP Kunwar Singh Tanwar, Sambhal MP Satyapal Saini and Rampur MP Nepal Singh were detained, Moradabad Commissioner Shiv Shankar Singh had said.
