Representation of OBCs, SCs, STs needed in judiciary, but no

The higher judiciary should have a fair representation of all communities and castes but there cannot be reservation for them, the Supreme Court today said.
The apex court, however, refused to entertain a PIL seeking direction to governments for appointing people belonging to OBCs, SCs and STs in higher judiciary.
"We understand it but there has to be other way out. No mandamus can be granted on the issue by this court," a bench headed by Justice T S Thakur said.
"You make representations before government and Chief Justice of India," the bench said.
The court said that people of all communities have aspirations and these should be considered by the authorities but it ruled out any reservation in the appointment of judges.

The bench agreed with petitioner Jella Lingaiah that various communities are not getting fair representation and said that in Delhi High Court there has been only one judge from SC community during the last 46 years.
