Ambala Railway division got good response after an appeal was made by Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railways, Ambala, Dinesh Kumar, through a tweet to all NGOs, schools, colleges and residents to come forward for painting station buildings/premises of Ambala division with local art/theme.
The DRM had made this appeal on tweeter yesterday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat radio address, lauded efforts by citizens across the country to beautify railway stations.
Talking to media persons here today, the DRM said that some voluntary organizations and educational institutions approached the railway officials in this regard.
Dinesh Kumar said permission to any voluntary, social organization, local residents and educational institutions coming forward to offer their contribution would be granted after examining the project.
He said that even if any Panchayat wanted to decorate its rural railway station it would be allowed.
He informed that Ambala Cantt and Chandigarh are the 'A-1' grade stations of the Division while Sirhind, Jagadhri, Bathinda, Rajpura, Kalka and Patiala come in 'A' grade category.
Kumar said that he was hopeful that entrepreneurs of these areas would also participate in this noble cause.
He also informed that Indian Railways and SNCF, a state-owned Railway company of France will jointly work on Ambala and Ludhiana stations as pilot renovation projects.
