Retired paramilitary personnel threaten hunger strike

Demanding One Rank One Pension (OROP), retired personnel of the central paramilitary forces have threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from November 2.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the All India Central Paramilitary Forces Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, comprising retired personnel of CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles, said their genuine demands were not being properly redressed in spite of repeated request and peaceful agitations.
The Association alleged that continued apathy and gross injustice meted out to central paramilitary force personnel by the government has resulted in wide spread resentment amidst retired and serving personnel, widows, dependants, who are totally demoralised.

"In view of the prevailing circumstances, we have decided to stage dharna/hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on November 2 to mark our protest before a continuous mass agitation with effect from November 3 until our demands are met," the letter addressed to the Prime Minister said.
The Association also listed their 10 demands that include OROP, separate service and pension rules instead of Central Civil Services Rules, grant of ex-servicemen status with consequential benefits, CSD canteen facility, Ex-Service Men Contributory Health Scheme besides others.
Last month, the government had announced that it would implement OROP for all defence personnel.
