Roko Cancer camp by ONGC in Assam

Oil exploration major Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) has launched its 'Roko Cancer' Corporate Social Responsibility programme at its operational area at Madhapur in Jorhat district of Assam.
Five types of early detection for cancer related tests were conducted at the programme at Madhapur in Borhulla oil operational area under Titabor sub-division yesterday to detect growth of cancer, Kasi Donepudi, senior manager, Project & Health Planning for 'Roko Cancer' here, said.
The tests were mammography, screening for breast cancer, clinical breast examination by physician, screening for cervical cancer through PAP smear, oral cancer examination and counselling for stopping tobacco use.

Altogether 461 men and women were tested and checked for possible diseases prevalent not only in Assam but also in ONGC oil operational areas in Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal and Nagaland, he said.
The camp was started from Jorhat ONGC operational area for three districts of Jorhat, Nazira and Sivasagar where crude oil exploration is much higher at present.
Two super specialist oncologists - Dr Shagun, specialist for breast and cervical cancer and Dr Salma, specialist for oral cancer - were in the team.
A fully equipped laboratory van consisting of the latest facilities for detection of cancer and conducting the various tests was there, Donepudi said.

Donepidi is senior manager Project and Health from Roko Cancer Charitable Trust, which is an agent for the ONGCL to conduct the camp.
