The scheme will be based on water from river Tamirabarani and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has also granted administrative approval for Rs 87 lakh as annual maintenance towards the project, a government release here said.
The proposal will benefit 100 rural colonies in 13 village panchayats including Kudankulam where 55 litres of water a day per person will be ensured, the release said.
In 2012, government had announced a Rs 500 crore assistance package for social development of areas in and around Kudankulam which has been witnessing protest against the Indo-Russian joint venture nuclear power project.
