BMS national general secretary K C Mishra also took a dig at Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the recent hike in minimum wages of non-agricultural, unskilled workers to Rs 350 per day, saying "what was the big deal about that".
Addressing a gathering here, Mishra also took a trip down mythological lane claiming 'Shukracharya' spoke of concepts like surplus value long before Karl Marx did and labour movements date back thousands of years in India.
"Rajasthan has emerged as the model in this regard. Even Madhya Pradesh did the same. The BMS will oppose these moves tooth and nail. People say your own government is doing it but we do not care who is in the government. We will continue fighting for need-based minimum wages," Mishra said.
Mishra was addressing the BMS-organised 'National Labour Day' gathering on the occasion of Biswakarma Jayanti here which was also attended by RSS Sah-Prant Sanghachalak Alok Kumar.
All major unions, except BMS, had joined the September 2 nationwide strike, protesting against "anti-worker" changes in labour laws and the Centre's "indifference" to their demands for better wages.
