The RSS today said it will not act as a guiding or controlling force for the Narendra Modi dispensation and had campaigned during the Lok Sabha polls to ensure a "nationalistic" government at the Centre.
"The RSS would not act as a guiding or controlling force for the Narendra Modi government," said Manmohan Vaidya, RSS Chief spokesperson.
Speaking to media, he said the Sangh had participated in the campaign during the last Lok Sabha elections only to ensure that a "nationalistic" government was installed at the Centre and polling percentage goes up.
"Now the RSS is back to its normal activities and using its energy for national development and social activities," he said.
Replying to a question regarding the RSS' assessment of the performance of Modi government, he expressed satisfaction but said "they (RSS) would like to give one year to the BJP-led government to show its performance."
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, along with 32 senior leaders, have gathered at Doraha near here to participate in the five-day long annual national meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Sangh.
The meeting is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
Replying to a question on religious conversions, Vaidya termed it as a sensitive issue.
He blamed the upper caste Hindus for it and said, "their lack of interaction with the weaker sections of the Hindu society was allowing the leaders of other religions to exploit them to change their religion."
Vaidya asked the Hindus to increase their interaction with the weaker sections of the society to avoid conversions.
He further said that for RSS India, Bharat and Hindustan was same.
