The Supreme Court has upheld the terms and conditions laid down by the women and child development department for selection of Take Home Ration (THR) suppliers, Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde said today.
Take Home Ration (THR) is a supplementary nutrition given at day care centres (anganwadis).
The women and child development minister said that the SC's recent verdict has thus vindicated her stand.
"While upholding the terms and conditions for the tender, the Supreme Court has ruled that the 18 women groups and self help groups (SHG) selected accordingly should be asked to start work from May 1, 2017," Munde told reporters here.
"Our priority was to ensure supply of hygienic and good quality THR, which has been upheld by the Supreme Court. This has given an impetus to our fight against malnutrition," Munde added.
The tender process for THR had come under heavy criticism for its stringent terms and conditions.
Opposition had levelled allegations that the terms and conditions have been devised in a manner to enable a few particular suppliers while automatically eliminating small SHGs in the process.
Charges of corruption too were levelled against Munde.
