Hemavarthini, a plus one student from Puliyakulam was admitted to a private hospital here two days ago with complaints of fever and tested positive for dengue, they said.
However, she died last night without responding to treatment, they added.
DMK MLA N Karthick of singanallur constituency here had recently blamed the state government for "failure" to control dengue.
After his visit to the government hospital here, the MLA alleged that the government was not giving exact number of people affected by the disease.
A woman and her 2-day-old had died of dengue in the district on July 9.
