With an aim to promote science-based creativity and innovation among students, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to set up 100 science clubs in the civic body-run primary schools.
The civic body has taken an important step in the direction of making the learning of science an exciting and enjoyable exercise for students of its primary schools by setting up 100 science clubs in the schools, a senior SDMC official said.
Vigyan Prasar Network- VIPNET under the Department of Science and Technology, has agreed to provide its expertise in setting up the clubs at the earliest, he said.
The clubs will serve as local activity centres for young students and help in answering their queries on science and technology, said Shailendra Singh, chairman of SDMC standing committee.
Selection of the schools for setting up the clubs and the teachers will be done by senior officials of the civic body keeping in view the interest and keenness of the faculty members in involving themselves in the endeavour, he said.
Orientation programmes and workshops for imparting comprehensive training to the teachers will be organised and VIPNET has offered resource material and personnel for training the teachers to enable them to accelerate the pace of developing scientific interest among students, Singh said.
The science clubs at municipal schools will become a part of the more than 12,500 such clubs across the country, enabling the students to share their scientific success stories, ideas, gain insight and national exposure, he added.
