Security beefed up in C'garh for Independence Day

Security has been stepped up in Chhattisgarh, particularly in Maoist-affected areas, in view of Independence Day celebration on Thursday, police said.

Tight security is being maintained across the state, mainly in the Bastar division, to avoid any untoward incidents during I-Day celebrations, Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI on Wednesday.

"Necessary instructions have been issued to all concerned officers and personnel of security forces to ensure peaceful celebration," he added.

Patrolling has been intensified in interior forests of naxal-affected districts including Sukma, Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, Bastar and Rajnandgaon, he said.

Besides, additional security arrangements have been made at each district headquarters, the DIG said, adding that security forces have been asked to keep an eye on suspicious movements near government establishments and on inter-state borders in Bastar region.

Meanwhile, the government has completed necessary preparations in all the 27 districts, including the state capital, to observe Independence Day, said a public relation official.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will hoist the National Flag on Thursday morning at Police Parade ground in Raipur and receive the guard of honour by different units of security personnel, he said.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey and the chief minister have greeted people on the eve of Independence.

"Great freedom fighters and national heroes of the country attained freedom for the country with struggle and sacrifices. It is because of their sacrifices that we are living in a free democratic country," the governor said in a statement.

The youngsters of the country have a great responsibility to maintain this freedom, integrity and unity of the country, she added.

In his message, the CM said Independence Day is the day to commemorate contribution of great freedom fighters.

"We should draw inspiration from the sacrifices of freedom fighters and pledge to turn their dreams and visions into reality," he added.
