Serving the larger interests of the people is more significant than the inconvenience being faced by them, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said on the Centre's move to demonetise 500 and 1,000 rupee notes.
He also appealed to people to withdraw cash from their bank accounts only as per requirement and deposit any new currency notes received through trade or sale in the bank to ensure others could withdraw cash when needed.
"The government is working to provide adequate cash to the people and the situation would improve soon," he said, hailing the government's move as a "major step".
"Serving the larger interests of the people is more significant than the inconvenience being faced by them," Khattar said.
The Chief Minister was interacting with the people who were waiting for their turn to deposit or withdraw cash or exchange the demonetised currency notes during a surprise visit to a branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce here on his way to a function at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex.
On the Supreme Court verdict in the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal case, Khattar said the people of Haryana were happy with the judgment of the apex court.
He said an agreement for Special Purpose Vehicle scheme had been signed with the Railways under which any state could carry out activities related to the Railways.
"This would remove all hindrances in beautification of the railway stations, and projects related to railway overbridges and underbridges," he said, adding, "the central and the state government would make joint investment under this scheme.
