Session is called after taking govt, speaker in confidence:

Two days after the Congress demanded a special session of the Goa Assembly for conducting a floor test, Speaker Pramod Sawant said the governor can call a session after consulting the government and the Speaker.

With Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, the Congress has said the BJP-led government does not have enough numbers in the Assembly.

Speaker Sawant said Thursday that even if a special session is called, a no-trust motion will need a prior notice.

Further, "Governor convenes the session after taking the Speaker and government into confidence," he added.

The Assembly was in session only one and a half months ago, he noted.

Asked about his stand on the matter, he said he will go strictly by the rule book and the precedents.

The Congress, which met Governor Mridula Sinha Tuesday, claimed it has support of the required number of MLAs to form a new government in the coastal state.

The BJP has ruled out any change in leadership in Goa despite Parrikar's illness.
