Seven of a family from Bengaluru, including two women, were killed when their car collided with a lorry near Rajapalayam in the district today, police said.
Six persons in the car died on the spot, while one died later in a hospital, they said.
Two others injured in the mishap were admitted to hospital.
The family, hailing from Bengaluru, was on a tour of Kerala and was returning from Thiruvananthapuram, when the car in which they were travelling collided with the lorry carrying sugar bags, police said.
The lorry driver has been arrested.
The accident affected flow of traffic on the Rajapalayam-Tenkasi Road for about an hour.
