The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Thursday that the PCB had sent Sethi's nomination to the ICC.
"The PCB's Board of Governors (BoG) has unanimously nominated Sethi for the post of ICC President and the Prime Minister has also now approved the nomination," the statement said.
The PM is the patron in chief of the cricket board.
The statement said that Najam Sethi while serving as Chairman of the board until recently had helped fashion a new democratic constitution for the PCB and later voluntarily stepped aside to make way for the election of Shaharyar Khan.
