Sharp rise in temp in tribal areas accelerates melting of ice

The sudden rise in day temperature in tribal areas, which crossed 30 degree mark at some places in Lahaul and Spiti has accelerated the process of melting of snow and glaciers leading to rise in discharge of water in nallahs and rivulets.
The Sansari nallah was in spate and stretch of Tandi-Sansari road, linking the areas with Jammu amd Kashmir was submerged under water disrupting vehicular traffic.
The road would be cleared by tomorrow and traffic would be restored, a spokesman of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) said.
The glaciers in high altitude Himalayan area are melting at a fast sped due to rise in temperature which stayed 4 to 8 degree above normal, both during day and night.

Meanwhile, Himachal had moderate to heavy rains at isolated places and Nahan recorded 23.5 mm of rains while Paonta Sahib recorded 16 mm of rains, followed by Una 15 mm, Mandi 8 mm and Hamirpur 7 mm.
The maximum temperatures dropped few notches throughout the day and Bhuntar was hottest in the region with a high of 34.8 deg followed by Solan 32.4 deg, Sundernagar 30.9 deg, Dharamsala and Nahan 30.2 deg, Kalpa 26.2 deg and Shimla 26 deg C.
The minimum night temperatures was above 23 deg at Una, Bhuntar and Dharamsala while Chamba and Sundernagar recorded minimum temperatures at 22.5 deg, followed by Solan 20 deg and Shimla 19.1 deg C.
