For the first time, Pakistan government will introduce a bill in parliament for journalists so that they follow a 'code of ethics' and to ensure their protection, information and broadcasting minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said today.
While reaffirming the government's resolve to freedom of expression, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Aurangzeb also asked the journalists to show responsibility while discharging their duties, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
Addressing a reception at Press Club Karachi, she said the government is introducing for the first time a bill in the National Assembly for the protection of journalists and implementation of code of ethics.
Aurangzeb said that a mechanism is imperative for the job protection of working journalists.
She regretted that some journalists are involved in character assassination of leaders and politicians they do not like.
Replying to a question, the state Minister for Information said that law and order has been restored in all parts of the country. She said that inflation in the country is at its lowest in the history of the nation.
