Six young spotted deer die after falling into well

Six spotted deer were found dead in two farm wells in nearby Morappur in Harur Forest Division in the wee hours today.
Forest personnel, on being informed, rescued one injured deer from another well, official sources said.
They said the deer, aged between two-three, might have come in search of water and fallen into the wells at Yettipatti, A.Vilampatti and Agraharam villages abutting the Morappur forest range, about 40 km from here.
Harur forest division has high population of spotted deer, and the animals venturing out in search of water being hit by vehicles is a regular feature.
The rescued deer was given treatment at Harur Forest office premises while the dead were buried after postmortem.

Farmers said the forest department should take efforts to set up water sources in the forest areas to prevent the animals from coming out to quench their thirst.
Dharmapuri Conservator of Forest Manjunath said a proposal for making artificial water ponds in all ranges of Harur Division had been sent to the government for approval.
