Skill development plaza, innovation park set up for DU fest

A 'skill development plaza' and an 'innovation park' will be the highlights of the annual academic and cultural festival of Delhi University beginning tomorrow.
The three-day fiesta 'Antardhwani' will be inaugurated by BJP MP Chandan Mitra, University of Melbourne's Vice- Chancellor Glyn Davis and University of Edinburgh's Vice- Chancellor Sir Timothy O' Shea.
"The university had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Council (NSDC). A skill development plaza is being set up at the festival venue where the council will conduct a host of activities including seminars and workshops for creating awareness about job opportunities," DU's Media Coordinator and Joint Dean of Students' Welfare Malay Neerav said.

"Other attractions include an innovation park that would demonstrate new dimensions of knowledge creation through undergraduate research projects. The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) will showcase innovations to facilitate the teaching and learning process for the visually-challenged," he added.
The sports plaza will display the accomplishments of DU sportspersons in the international arena, where award winners will interact with students.
"In addition, the University is going to give a good practices award. This year, the theme for the competition is 'University of Delhi: Meeting the Challenges of India'.

"The work submitted by various colleges will be judged at four levels by a proctorial committee, an internal panel and an external jury. The yardsticks include safety, security, colleges' contribution to achieving excellence in addressing India's challenges, student research, and building leadership qualities among students, to name some," Neerav said.

The first prize carries Rs 10 lakh, the second Rs 7 lakh, and the third Rs 5 lakh. There will also be three consolation prizes of Rs 1 lakh each, he added.
Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be the Chief Guest for the valedictory function scheduled on February 22.
