Former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant's daughter has claimed that her family was facing threat from those responsible for killing her father, and requested the police to ensure their safety.
Sawant was stabbed to death outside his residence in suburban Kandivli in January this year by unidentified assailants, apparently over a dispute related to controlling cable television business in the area.
In a letter written to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Sawant's daughter Prajakta, said, "My father was a chairman of a co-operative housing society in Kandivli. He had ventured into cable television business some time back and had secured the right to provide the service in the building being constructed in the colony".
She stated that an aide of another cable operator has hinted of "fatal consequences" if Sawant's family doesn't give up their claim on the business.
"This incident has raised an alarm in my mind that the person who plotted the murder of my father, will further take dangerous steps against me and my family to grab the cable business," she stated.
She urged the police to bring the culprits responsible for her father's killing to book, and ensure the safety of her family.
Sawant, a two-term corporator from Samata Nagar in Kandivli, was stabbed to death when he was returning his home after meeting a friend.
Police have arrested six persons in connection with the killing. However, prime accused Jagdish Pawar is still at large.
