Slight increase in minimum temperature in J&K

The minimum temperature across Kashmir remained above the freezing point for second consecutive night, giving some respite to residents from severe cold conditions.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees above normal for this part of the year, a MET Department official said here.
She said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius, up from the last night's 0.8 degrees Celsius.
The official said the night temperature in Pahalgam, a tourist resort which serves as a base camp during annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, settled at a low of 0.5 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, remained unchanged at 0.2 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The night temperature in south Kashmir town of Kokernag however dipped to 1.1 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday's 3.6 degrees Celsius, she said.

The minimum temperature in Kupwara, in north Kashmir, was recorded at a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius, she said.
Meanwhile, mercury in Leh plunged last night to settle at a low of minus 10.9 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday's minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, the official said.
She said the night temperature in the nearby Kargil town also dropped to settle at a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius.
