Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur, to facilitate setting up of more bank branches in the rural areas, especially tea gardens, of the state.

He said the move will help the state achieve better financial inclusion, a release said on Thursday.

The chief minister held a meeting with Thakur here during the day.

The union minister assured Sonowal that besides opening more branches, he would take personal interest in deploying bank correspondents and 'dak sevaks' in far-flung areas of the state to bring people uncovered by banking services under its ambit, it said.

He said Assam is in Centre's priority list as the finance ministry has enlisted a series of incentives for the state.

Thakur added the Centre is working to bring in a paradigm shift in the industrial landscape of the northeast under the North East Industrial Development Scheme 2017, it said.
