Vaishnavacharya Goswami Indirabetiji, a proponent of Sanatan Dharma known for her devotion to social causes, passed away here after suffering a heart attack.
She was 78.
Indirabetiji, lovingly known as Jiji, was a proponent of Hinduism and Pushtimarg--a path of devotion that practises unconditional, selfless love for Lord Krishna without seeking anything in return.
She had suffered a heart attack on July 22 after which she was admitted to a private hospital, her close aide Nayan Gandhi, a trustee of Vallabhacharya Trust, told PTI, adding she could not survive another heart attack late last night.
Born on September 3 in 1939, Jiji was the fourteenth generation in the lineage of scholar, philosopher and mystic of the sect.
She founded Shrimad Vallabh Acharya Research Academy to spread her guru Vallabhacharyaji's philosophy and theology and authored several books on religion and philosophy.
Her trust helps poor by providing health care facilities and mobile eye-care, dental care, physiotherapy, and blood donation camps.
Devotees turned up in large numbers to pay homage to her mortal remains kept at a Vrajnathji temple campus in Manjalpur locality of the city. She was finally cremated on the banks of Vishwamitri river.
BJP MP from Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency, Ranjana Bhatt, city mayor Bharat Dangar, and Shubhanginidevi Gaekwad, former Rajmata of the royal Gaekwad dynasty among Vadodara's prominent citizens paid their last tributes to her.
