Hirunika Premachandra was arrested after Attorney General Yuwanjana Wanasundera Wijayathilake yesterday asked the police to take her into custody in relation to the last month's abduction in Dematagoda, said police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera.
Premachandra's security personnel had used her jeep to abduct the man. Although the six security personnel were promptly arrested and later released on bail, pressure mounted on the police to arrest the lawmaker.
The man told the police that he was taken to Premachandra's office to be seen by her after being abducted.
The abduction followed by the arrest has come as an embarrassment for the government which has been complaining about high handedness of the previous Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.
