Statistical highlights of
the second day's play in the second cricket Test between India and West Indies, here.
# Lokesh Rahul (158) has registered his career-best score in Tests, surpassing the 110 vs Australia at Sydney in January 2015. His only other hundred is 108 vs Sri Lanka at Colombo (PSS) in August 2015.
# Rahul's marvellous knock is the first hundred by an Indian opener, playing in his first innings vs West Indies in West Indies, eclipsing the 96 by Ajay Jadeja at St John's in 1996-97.
# Rahul has become the fifth Indian batsman to record a century in his first innings in the West Indies, joining Polly Umrigar (130 at Port of Spain in 1952-53), Brijesh Patel (115 not out at Port of Spain in 1975-76), Ravichandran Ashwin (113 at North Sound in 2016) and Sanjay Manjrekar (108 at Bridgetown in 1988-89).
# Only two visiting batsmen have scored more than Rahul in their first Test innings in the Caribbean - Glenn Turner (NZ) - 223 not out at Kingston in February 1972 and Andrew Hudson (SA) - 163 at Bridgetown in April 1992.
# Rahul has become the third Indian opener to register the first three Test hundreds away from home, joining Sunil Gavaskar (8) and Vinoo Mankad (3).
# Rahul is the ninth opening batsman to post an innings of 150 or more in Tests at Kingston - the last batsman to achieve the feat was England's Graham Gooch 153 in April 1981. Pankaj Roy was the first Indian opening batsman to record 150 at this venue - 150 in March 1953.
# The last Indian opener to register an innings of 150 or more outside the subcontinent was Gautam Gambhir - 167 at Wellington in April 2009.
# The last visiting opener to record a century vs West Indies at Kingston was Navjot Singh Sidhu - 116 in April/May 1989.
# Seven times against the West Indies, the top three partnerships in an innings for India produced fifty-plus runs - the last instance being at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in November 2011.
# Pujara's strike rate of 28.93 (46 off 159 balls) is the fourth lowest by an Indian batsman in an innings of 150 or more balls vs West Indies. During his innings of 40 off 171 balls at Chennai in October 2002, Sanjay Bangar had recorded strike rate of 23.39 - the lowest vs West Indies.
# Pujara and Rahul were involved in a stand of 121 for the second wicket -India's second highest in Tests at Kingston behind the 237 between Pankaj Roy and Vijay Manjrekar in 1953.
