'Steps being taken for launch of scheme on gender sensitivity'

The WCD Ministry is taking proactive steps for the launch of a scheme for adolescent boys on gender sensitivity in view of the rising crimes against women, Union Minister Krishna Tirath said today.
The new scheme, 'Saksham', will focus on the overall growth of young boys, Tirath told PTI at the sidelines of the first meeting of the National Mission Steering Group here.
Tirath said the idea behind launching the scheme is mainly to sensitise boys between the age group of 10-18 years about women issues to change their mindset and outlook.
Referring to the Delhi gang rape incident in which the youngest accused was reported to be most violent, the minister said it indicates the need for a change in the mindsets of adolescent boys.

"The cases of rape, molestation, domestic violence and other crimes against women are increasing steadily. Further, it has come to our notice that there are now more cases being reported involving juveniles," she said.
Apart from food, education and other-related issues, the Saksham scheme will focus on imparting values and teaching adolescent boys about gender sensitivity, the minister said.
