"During the meeting with the Planning Commission and state delegation led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, we were able to stress on the sectors like power, agriculture, small scale industries and tourism, besides social sectors," Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said.
"Altogether 11 out of the 19 districts in the state were already identified as backward and this time we have urged the Planning Commission to include three more districts Jalpaiguri, Cooch-Behar and North 24-Parganas in it and enhance allocation accordingly under Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF)," the minister, who accompanied Banerjee at the meeting, said.
"The Planning Commission has assured us to look into the matter," Mukherjee said.
The state government already completed its survey works for preparing BPL lists in the rural area, while such a survey was on in the urban areas now, he added.
